Plitvice Lakes — how to do it without the crowds destroying the experience.

Buy tickets online in advance. Go on a weekday. Arrive at 8am. Start with Route B (lower lakes). Avoid the central boardwalks between 10am and 3pm.

Plitvice receives 1.5 million visitors per year. The crowds are real and significant. The strategy is to start where everyone finishes.

Route B begins with the lower lakes and works up. Most visitors do the reverse. Being out of phase with the crowd by one hour changes the entire day.
